The Virtual Pew, Month End Report

I can’t say thank you enough for those who have supported The Virtual Pew. If I could get the monthly support like we got last month so much of the stress would be relieved.  I know I am to trust in the Lord, and I do, but sometimes when I don’t know how I am going to pay the bills it is tough. Then, as always, God comes through.  So, for those again, praying, and giving, I thank you so much, you are a reminder of God’s faithfulness and that He is indeed Jehovah Jireh.

As is often the case, things can change in an instant. If folks come through as they did last month things are going to be fine, otherwise, it will be another tough month.  It is still my desire that the monthly giving will stabilize so that this monthly concern is lessened. We do have a temporary contribution of $90 per month that is coming in through https://www.patreon.com/thevirtualpew.  Others can give from $5 on up monthly and this again helps tremendously.  I am not good at asking people specifically to help so this is about as good as I can get at it. Some people ask me if I would like them to donate, or if it would be okay to donate. I’ll be honest, I’m terrible about things like this, if you’re asking the question, just let me say, any donation amount is greatly appreciated.

As to the monthly ministry:  I have been making more of an effort promoting The Virtual Pew including making memes to be posted as well as increasing the number of posting teachings. There has also been more and more contact as these efforts are increased. This month I have had to as of today’s date, 8/20/2021 11 face to face contacts with persons receiving services, and some 175+ FB interactions and get this, this month, after a brief add campaign, over 10,000 online visitors.  Regarding the effectiveness of ministry; God is still using The Virtual Pew, there is no doubt that God is still using it to touch the lives of so many others on the fringes. There is also no doubt of the need of ongoing monthly support and help if it is to continue.

This month there were also some unexpected medical issues that came up, not having insurance made it concern but within 30 minutes of posting those concerns on Facebook those needs were met.  God continues to meet my needs and I am appreciative of that.  Sheila, my fiancĂ©, and I are also moving closer to making a decision as to our wedding date. With that comes some extra pressure as to the continuation of ministry, our role in ministry together as well as the ways God will provide while at the same time allowing Sheila to thrive in the calling God has placed on her life. After so many years in ministry I feel compelled to make sure that she follows her heart in ministry. I want her to feel complete and believe that God can have us work together, and if that means me in a supporting role to assist her, I am open to that. Sheila I believe is in many ways a continuation of The Virtual Pew as her primary postings on FaceBook for example are Biblical Memes and such that uplift others. I have no doubt, God has put us together.

Regarding calling, I must be honest. I have had several ministry opportunities over the last months and am looking at those as options. Sheila and I have visited one of the locations recently. With the three ministry opportunities I would be required to move for 2 of them, and the third an option to possibly stay here in Wichita and commute. Of course, a lot of prayer on this and more information as appropriate can be shared about this opportunity. Of course, there is also the possibility that The Virtual Pew could press on and beyond opening doors to teach, preach, and continue reaching out to those on the fringes.  On all of this, prayers are requested.

Thankfully, this is another month that seems as if we will get by, for that, I am grateful. Of course, with your ongoing help and support we can do more than just get by, we can do more and relieve some of that stress. Of course ongoing support is required to get by.

Make sure to check out The Virtual Pew Facebook page and web site for ongoing articles and teachings, as well as recommending us to others who may need someone to lend a listening ear and heart to their troubles.

If willing to help, it is greatly appreciated. I ask you, do not write checks or make contributions to me. All contributions should be made either to The Virtual Pew or Mosaic. The Virtual Pew is a Religious Organization and Mosaic is a 501-C3 nonprofit.

If desiring more information about this ministry or the testimonials from others, please don’t hesitate to ask. I really am dependent on others to support this missional ministry to keep it going. I have nothing left to give as I’ve depleted, and I’m not complaining, my savings and retirement accounts, now, it really is dependent on you to allow yourself to be used by God to help us out.

I am more than willing to share at your church, business and so forth. I have shared across America as to the work God has done and done for me. I love those opportunities.

 Blessings and thank you,

 Mike Furches

Financial Needs and Stressors

Greeting to all of those who have benefited and supported The Virtual Pew in the past. Let me state for those that don’t know, The Virtual Pew is a Religious Organization that is dependent on gifts and donations to maintain the ministry we do. Thus, the periodic request for help.  We still need those who would support us on a regular monthly basis. While I largely pay for the ministry operations and expenses out of pocket, I need approximately $600 a month to maintain stability and be able to meet needs.  There are times some may be critical of letting it be known as to the needs of help but most all missions operate having to raise their support.

A couple of months ago we were at the direst point ever as there was not enough money to get through the month. I took the rest of my money out of my retirement account, plus had donations come in that gave us enough to get by for several months. Right now, there is enough to get by for likely 2 more months. So, while it isn’t an emergency to raise funds now, it will be in 2 months. As a matter of good and appropriate stewardship I am trying to prevent getting to that point of drastic and stressful need.

I will ask again, can you help meet our monthly needs? There is no doubt as to the benefit of ministry we have provided as I see it day to day, but with a wedding coming up and the desire to serve others, it is stressful, and I know, not good for my already broken and mended heart. I have actually been seeing the doctor for my blood pressure as it was at a dangerous high level yesterday of 194/120. I’ve got to find ways to reduce the stress, the main stressor is right now, finances.

If willing to help, it is greatly appreciated. I ask you, do not write checks or make contributions to me. All contributions should be made either to The Virtual Pew or Mosaic. The Virtual Pew is a Religious Organization and Mosaic is a 501-C3 nonprofit.

Just as a side bar, in last 3 days, I among numerous other areas I have assisted another church in ministry to those on the fringes as to best methods and how to do it. A person seeking help for a person threatening suicide, and council to another individual regarding theological issues regarding the church they are going to. I’ve also had the ministry I do reaffirmed by others, but reaffirmations while great and very much appreciated, doesn’t pay the bills. Again, the ministry work continues thanks to the help of others and the sacrifices I have made and my late wife before me.

Urgent Call for Support

Every now and then I send out a request for support. It's been awhile but the need now is actually greater than it's ever been. Let me be clear, I don't like doing it, there is always one like William who recently talked about how I needed to get a real job, needed to quit being an underachiever and "quit playing music for drunks" among numerous other attacks. This despite the ministry that takes place among some of those "drunks" aka as regular folks who need to know Jesus and that Jesus loves.

A few things about the last year. Regular donations over the last few years have gone from at one time $600 a month to now, $0. Covid was a huge part of this. As you know, if you have followed my work, the people I have been blessed to provide ministry to often times don't have money. So it involves me doing things like the following, just within the last three months:

  • providing online counseling services to persons contemplating suicide which involves being online with them, or on the phone while at the same time in immediate need cases online with local authorities.  My knowledge in this area gets immediate attention from Law Enforcement. As a result in the last 3 months, numerous individuals talked down, 3 individuals where the authorities went and stopped a "serious" attempt and one case unfortunately, where the authorities did not get there in time and the person committed suicide. Believe me, it pains me to this day knowing the efforts I made to save and help this person, even offering to drive to Wyoming to be with them.
  • Since December I have housed 3 homeless people, although I said I wouldn't do it again. It costs approximately $300 a month to house a homeless person here.  None of the 3 paid anything and in one instance I had one steal a bunch of stuff some of them that belonged to Mary Jane. In all of these cases I supplemented and paid out of pocket the cost of keeping them here. That will be changing as I am not so certain if I can do this again. I certainly can't afford it without major financial help.
  • There are homeless persons on the street I have helped and assisted, be it with musical counseling and assistance or just being a friend and thanks to FEMA giving advice and masks related to COVID, so far some 1,200 masks.
  • There are things like hospital visits to individuals who have followed me online and consider me their "pastor" even though I still have a hard time considering myself a pastor.
  • Then as of late the writing and reviews have started again. I know some will not see this as a ministry, but if you ever take the time to read those reviews you will see points of discussion that points to Christ, yet isn't preachy. Some would be amazed at the doors of conversation this has brought about. To the point of praying in a smoking area at a local bar with people on several occasions and even those in the arts community who call me Pastor Mike and tells me how much they appreciate me because I am not like other "preachers" I am "real."
  •  There is much more that goes on, on a daily basis, sharing my faith in a real, but honestly broken way, (believe me, I am the first to admit my shortcomings and failures.
  • I am also so grateful that the continued work with my band Pastor Mike and the Demon Slayer Blues Band continues. While I am receiving some royalties for world wide air-play it amounts to less than $20 a month. As musicians will tell you, for playing purposes, this is really good but not enough to live on.
  • The video On My Knees has now been seen close to 1 Million times world wide on various formats, the gospel message on that video is abundantly clear.
  • My music has been played in approximately 48 States and now in over 115 countries. While there are no "hits" and work to be done for live performances, rest assured, as my band will tell you or anyone who has seen us. In the bars and clubs we have played, the love of God is always mentioned, displayed and clearly presented. Yet because I am seen as "Real", it is received.
  • There is much more from individual spiritual counseling, videos and more that is taking place on a daily basis.

Now here is the reality. Currently I have monthly expenses at around $2,200 a month. That is with no medical benefits or salary or anything of the sort. I currently get $1,800 a month from Spousal Death Benefits, a bit of retirement, and a little outside earnings. As you can tell, the math don't add up. Currently, for the first time in 3 years, the bank account has less than $1,000 in it.

Last month, there was approximately $500 in support that came in from individuals. One specifically requested that their $300 gift go to me, which I appreciated and as hard as it was, respected, the other individuals $200 went right into the bank for the ministry.

On top of all of this, also please consider that none of this includes the now close to $500,000 of medical bills I have due to the quadruple bypass heart surgery where the doctors assured me that with those arteries being blocked 100% I had very little time to live. I am paying about 6 medical facilities between $10 and $25 a month for a total of $150 a month that I didn't expect to be paying.  This is above and beyond the operational expenses for The Virtual Pew / Mosaic including living expenses. Neither is included though that my lawnmower and weed eater among other things was stolen and I had to purchase new ones this last month.

I don't like asking for help it makes me feel like a moocher and is something not in my nature. I have had many people tell me that there are many ministries who does much less but brings in thousands a month because they are good at it. Well, I'm not good at it and I am not worried about having things for myself. I do have a few subscriptions like my $20 a month which allows me to do up to 3 movie reviews a week, my streaming subscriptions at about $30 a month and my car wash subscription at $19 a month. Outside of that, there really isn't anything else for my self other than getting with my band mates and playing music, but, I recognize, without help, I am in trouble.

Here is what I am asking you to consider: Would you consider supporting this ministry on a monthly basis?  Any monthly donation would be huge and of great benefit. I am also asking that you make that donation not to me but to either The Virtual Pew or Mosaic, preferably, to Mosaic. That gift is tax-deductable and goes to the immediate needs and operational expenses of ministry.

If not able to do a monthly gift in any amount, can you consider a one time gift in any amount?  Again, we praise and thank God for any donations that come in. They are so much appreciated as it allows me to do the ministry God has called me to do.

You can make contributions in several ways. I would ask first and foremost to make sure that if making a gift online that you specify that it is for The Virtual Pew / Mosaic.  That way it is easier to manage funds.

If mailing a gift the address is: Mosaic / The Virtual Pew, 1249 North Saint Francis, Wichita Kansas 67214

You can also give online via pay pal to - The Virtual Pew - mike@furches.org or Mosaic - mikefurches@yahoo.com

You can also give via cash app at $MichaelFurches

As a side bar, my health outside of allergies right now is doing great, my blood sugars over the last 2 years have gone from averaging 300 to now averaging 100 and I've lost some 50+ pounds and still losing weight.  I feel good and look forward to hopefully at the end of May seeing my daughter and grandson in Ohio for the first time since Mary Jane went to be with the Lord. My son Nathan has come through and I see him on a regular basis but have not seen my granddaughter now in over a year because the mother refuses to let me or my son see her even though he has joint custody and has been paying child support. That will be going to court in the near future as my son has already contacted an attorney.  I am also still waiting on 2 cases before the courts, one the contractors that robbed us and did the poor job on the renovations and the other a Grand Theft Felony case against the person stealing things here from the house. While I can forgive, it does not mean that people aren't held responsible.

The band continues to improve and we are also currently looking for a vehicle to travel and tour in. I continue to be excited about bringing the message of Pastor Mike and the Demon Slayer Blues Band to folks and we are open to playing wherever. The band and radio show I do weekly at KFH are among the highlights of my week as they are some me and enjoyable time while at the same time sharing Good News and happy moments.

Thank you again for your time, I very much do appreciate it and God bless you.

The Mackenzie Phillips Impact & Your Help

To friends of The Virtual Pew, Churches, Businesses and others, I am writing in request of help in starting up Mosaic ARC. If you have been following the news, both nationally and locally lately you are aware of the new attention being given to persons who have been physically and sexually abused. This is a horrible thing many have ignored for far too long. The reality is that our silence, our refusal to help people who have been hurt by physical and sexual abuse is sin. I know this all too well as I am a rare instance, of a male who was sexually abused by various persons including my own mother. I know the horror of living a life with the nightmares, difficulties, and conflicts. I know the struggle of both seeking and offering forgiveness. I know it is time that of all people, people who say they are followers of Jesus take seriously their call to reach out to this population of people.

One of the most often heard reasons for not getting help in this area for the victims, is they can’t afford it. What if I told you that a new program was starting October 1, 2009 in Wichita to provide help in recovery for whatever a person could afford to donate? If they can’t donate anything, there is still help available. What if I told you this was a huge step of faith of two ministries, The Virtual Pew and Mosaic Church?

The Virtual Pew is a ministry I started online several years ago, as a part of our ministry we have been reaching out to people often ignored or neglected who access the internet. As a part of my own story of abuse has been the desire, and blessing of touching people across the globe. In my own ministry I realized some time ago the need to have an actual center to provide one on one, direct help and recovery. I came to this realization upon my visiting my mother in Johnson City Tennessee prior to her death, and shortly after her death. It was while there that I believe God gave me direction on this ministry. I hope to someday see centers based on this approach across the country, including my home town of Johnson City Tennessee.

While back home I shared this vision with the leadership at Mosaic Church, where I serve as the pastor. During this meeting we accepted the challenge of starting a program of this nature up in the Mosaic Church facility. This really is an outreach and ministry of service to all people, despite, faith, financial status, or orientation. It is provided in an environment to encourage recovery and growth. For many, this is simply allowing the possibility to just talk about their experiences, for others it will require more, such as personal confrontation with support and more. For those that seek to involve faith in their recovery process, then that support is also available, but it is not required for individuals who receive help in the strictest of confidential settings.

Mosaic ARC (Abuse Recovery Center) has had a nationally recognized artist express a willingness to donate services to help with art work for branding and logo purposes. We are currently decorating the facility at Mosaic. We are in need of various items regarding the decoration of space, as well as ongoing support in the costs of operating this program. Currently myself, and Debby Elwood, a Masters Level Certified Counselor is providing the recovery services. Neither of us is receiving any additional salary, and Debby is volunteering services at this point, with the hope of drawing in some salary. Currently 30% of all proceeds coming in from services will go to support Mosaic, and the remainder, including any income that comes in from the work I do, will go to support Debby. My salary is quite low at Mosaic and the hope is that eventually, through growth and services offered that there could be some increase, but I only mention this to indicate, our desire is to really help, and the truth is, on a contribution as you can service like this, it will become very difficult without your support.

There are ways people can support this program. I will bullet many of those points.

· Make referrals to the program. If you or someone you know has experienced and had difficulties as a result of physical and sexual abuse, contact us at Mosaic, 316-305-0491 or 902 George Washington Blvd / Wichita KS 67211
· Donate financially and designate for the program. Contributions are tax deductible and should be made to Mosaic Wichita. Contributions can be mailed to the above address, or if wanting to give through The Virtual Pew, those gifts can be made online, although there is a charge to our services for those gifts.
· Donate by spreading the word. We have sent out numerous press releases, and one would think that with a service of this nature, especially with the national news, we would have had various interviews on the subject. Sadly, so far those requests have been few.
· Schedule me to speak at your church, business or event. I have shared The Story of Anthony across the United States from major corporations to small churches and small businesses. I am blessed to know this story has touched many persons. There is no charge for this, although contributions to the ministry are appreciated. If travel is involved outside of the Wichita Metro area, then request for transportation and lodging is requested. This story is not only informative, it is motivational for all persons, including those who have gone up in happy and healthy families. · Donate services. We need help from time to time for various things. Presently we need help with transportation of items that have been donated to the program. Even the use of a small pick-up truck would be appropriate.
· Donate items. A list of needed items at this point are needed to furnish the office, remember a small church, a ministry with little resources are taking on a huge task. Your contributions and help in this area help make this a community ministry, not just a ministry of Mosaic.
· There are other ways to help, if you are touched by the potential of this ministry, contact us and we will assure you, we will find a way to use you in Mosaic ARC.
· The donation of $300 a month would also allow us to rent the space next to Mosaic and use that space specifically for Mosaic services and specified space for Mosaic ARC. Currently we are using a former classroom in Mosaic which we are decorating and finishing up.

Presently we are seeing 3 people for this service. This is rather remarkable in that these three came in via word of mouth prior to even starting to offer services. We officially don’t open until October 1. We know we will ultimately need more people to help in the recovery services. We also know there is potential for growth to this program.

As mentioned earlier, there are items we are presently in need of. I am indicating those items, and please note, contributions to purchase the items can also be made and a designated dollar amount will be listed if wishing to donate the money as opposed to the item.

For the reception area:

· Television Stand - $100 (unless a flat screen which will be mounted on the wall, then $50)
· Television (we have priced several flat screens which would be optimal, with a built in DVD player for between $300 for a 27” and $400 for a 32” at Wal-Mart. This is to go in the reception area and be for parents awaiting children in tutoring, or friends or family with individuals receiving counseling for the Mosaic Abuse Recovery Center.
· Magazine Stand - $25
· Several appropriate magazine subscriptions – Price varies, subscriptions can be sent to Mosaic Address
· Book Case - $50
· Appropriate books – Generally $10 - $25 per book
· Wichita related art work – Price varies per work of art.

For the Mosaic ARC Office

· Locking file cabinet - $50
· Computer desk - $100
· Computer with appropriate memory and appropriate larger screen to be used in other events where video can be used in counseling or teaching sessions, (computer needs a DVD/CD player) - $900
· Appropriate computer speakers - $75
· Computer 3 in 1 printer - $50
· 2 comfortable nice matching chairs $200
· 1 nice office chair - $90
· 1 matching love seat - $150
· Larger book shelves - $75
· Appropriate books & Videos related to abuse, recovery, so forth - $10 - $25
· Appropriate lighthouse art work, or art work emphasizing recovery. – Price varies
· 1 nice floor lamp - $25 - $100
· Journaling note books to be given to individual receiving recovery services - $20

This last week I had a gentlemen who had a family member receiving services at Mosaic who spoke to me in the reception, waiting area how nice it would be to have a television or some reading material in that room. I told him I agreed and that I had made a request in the past to have some of that available, I now make that request again. Can you help out? Will you help out in providing a much needed service? Every time you see the news, or a mention of the effects of physical or sexual abuse, know there is a program you can help support which is doing something to help these victims. The question is, not if you can help, but will you?

The Virtual Pew News 21: Visit Those in Prison

Today I am back on my regular routine, a lot has happened and this copy of The Virtual Pew Newsletter will have a lot of things to address, I hope and pray you take the time to review it. It will have updates regarding my life, the life of Mosaic Church in Wichita, and onogings related to The Virtual Pew.

The summer has been rather crazy, let me see if I can paraphrase for you in short notice the events of the summer so far: my son left home, he is with his girlfriend, they plan on getting married next May and they are expecting a baby. That said, God calls me to love my son, and his girlfriend, that don’t mean I agree with everything, but it is what it is. We are all called to love!

Next up, my daughter quit her job to finish her graduate studies and work as a graduate assistant at Wichita State University, shortly thereafter, due to the economy her husband lost his job and now times are going to be challenging. She is smart enough to have saved money for the mortgage payment for their house for a year. To hear her husband state it, “We have the house payment, but don’t know if we will have electricity or not.”

My wife had surgery on her foot and leg, this put a kink into things, I spent much of the summer home with her, helping take care of her, it was good, but at times stressing.

Then we found out our landlord, in the house we had a lease option to purchase on, filed bankruptcy. We are still in limbo here until it goes to court. Long story there, but oh boy, you can only imagine.

We had to put our little dog down, seems he became to aggressive, killed 11 chickens in 2 days, bit me, snapped at a little boy, and well, the Humane Society don’t rehab dogs like that

My wife got a band together; we played a number of concerts in June, and have more coming up. We opened for a band named SHEL from Colorado and was blessed to spend some time with that family over the summer, friends last forever.

My mother died. I made it home to be with her prior to her death, it wasn’t easy, and some friends helped make this trip possible. Apparently some people sent gifts that never got to us. If you were one of those making a gift, please let us know, some of those are obvious, others not since we never received some of the gifts. I don’t know what is up but we want people to be aware. We also received a kind gift from friends at Hollywood Jesus that allowed my wife to visit and be there with me for the funeral. Without their generosity, this wouldn’t have happened.

Then we have a movie company, TiRoMa films out of Tulsa that has committed to making the movie on my life. Right now they are reviewing the manuscript of The Keystone Kid, will work out a script and go from there. This is exciting.

We also provided through The Virtual Pew’s wrestling associations scholarship monies to various individuals in college. Two of those recipients, James Fox and Gage Deere are previous recipients of these small scholarships, but others have also benefited and we hope this aspect of our ministry continues. Thanks to those contributing to help make these opportunities available.

Now there have been other things going on, like at Mosaic. The church continues to stay alive, while we are running out of funding in October, we have hope of getting additional funding as we essentially went through a relaunch in June. While the church was funded for 3 years, only a year of that has been with me at the helm. For the first year there we built relationship and learned to love each other. After a year we started the regrowth process. We started this during the end of June, and it has been doing well despite the 3 weeks I had to spend in Tennessee helping my sister with my mothers’ estate. Mosaic needs additional funding to keep things going. We are at a vulnerable stage bu things look positive if we get that little bit of help over the next year.

Mosaic is starting a Abuse Recovery Center in October of this year. I and another individual at Mosaic, Debbie Elwood is starting this program. I have extensive experience as a director of Mental Health Rehabilitation programs and extensive experience in counseling. Debbie has her Masters from Emporia State University and has experience in counseling. This program will be a recovery center for persons of all ages who have been physically and sexually abused. It will be provided on an as you can afford basis and will be largely funded with outside contributions. Mosaic could use your help with this venture; NOW! For now, Debbie or I will be receiving a salary. We hope the program builds to where it will supplement financial needs of the church, plus provide additional salary needs for myself and a full-salary for Debbie. This is a dream of mine and we’ve already had some interest expressed from around the country. My story with abuse is fairly well known and we hope this opens up doors for ministry.

The article in Dr. Charles Stanley’s magazine In Touch, June Edition, opened many doors for ministry. I have provided counsel to an individual on the PGA tour, encouraged women and men across the country, spent time on the telephone, via letter, and face to face with people touched by my story. I want to offer a special thanks to Dr. Charles Stanley, but also Lisa Baker who wrote the story. While we have had no additional income come in, there has been a lot of ministry taking place. I want to touch on just a small sample of that ministry, and in this small sample, encourage you, and motivate you to do your part.

One of the areas I was not expecting to occur was the amount of email, letters and so forth I would get from prisoners or people incarcerated who found out one way or another about the story.

Let me explain today’s activities, at least as of 11:15 AM. I woke up, took my wife to car pool to work with a friend, and then went home to do The Virtual Pew updates. I showered at 8 PM (woke up at 6 AM) Then left to go visit a prisoner in work release whose family put us in touch with each other. Ended up getting to the work release program and the facility would not allow a visit. I then drove to the post office, picked up the mail, two letters today from inmates, one in Kansas, and another in Texas.

I drive straight to the coffee shop where I set up office a couple of days a week and started reading the letters and then writing letters of response to those inmates. I just finished, and will spend the rest of the day trying to do a little sermon work, some visitation, and then the writing and posting of this newsletter.

I want to share something that is consistent with the letters and contacts I am getting from inmates and specifically the two letters this morning.

The first thing mentioned in the letters is usually; (especially with a first letter) is how grateful they are to hear from someone. It seems as if they hear on occasion from all kinds of bad influences, but never from Christians. If what is stated is true, and I believe it is, Christians have little to do with inmates and often times Christians even hurt them due to their lack of concern. Apparently many of the inmates have hopes, and want to walk with Christ, but they need to know they are loved from those on the outside who are willing to help them in this journey.

This morning I thought of something, Jesus tells us to visit those in prison, now we have easy access to do this via letters. Now that said, nothing replaces a face to face, and for those I can, I attempt the face to face visits. This morning I told an inmate in Beaumont Texas I would visit him when I received designated funding to do so. I told him, I don’t have much money, but maybe someone will help fund this trip so we can spend 4 hours together on a Saturday and Sunday. He is doing what he needs from his part to help I am doing what I can, and hopefully you will do what you can.

I thought of something else I hadn’t thought of before. Jesus commands us to visit those in prison. Most of us don’t do it. I wonder what the response of Jesus will be for those who not only don’t visit those in prison, don’t write letters and when asked, still turn their backs on the very people God has commanded us to love. We know some want those letters, those visits, now we have them asking and some of us; including at times me, make excuses as to why we can’t do it. What would Jesus tell us in those situations?

Today I want to provide you information on one inmate who has made his requests public, listen to some of his words first though:

“Two things caught my attention with you Mike; One is we’ve had similar childhoods and like you, I have greatly been neglected by the Christian Community. I placed an ad on the internet where I used the name a “Gay Ad: and pictures of me. The mail used to pour in, but this new ad, Christian has not received one response. You can read it at": Click here to see the post from Gary

Gary went on in his 4 page letter to me, all hand written all seeking out a relationship with someone who knows Christ. He poured out his heart, but after spending 11 ½ years in prison. He was incarcerated again in 2004 for a 25 year sentence. He don’t have much more than time on his hand. Here is a captive audience who wants to hear more about Jesus, more about how we can share in life, and yet, not a single Christian has responded to his request. I am grateful he saw the article in, In Touch Magazine, I am grateful because I want to be used in a ministry that still reaches out to The Lost, The Last, and The Least. Why? Because Jesus has told me to, he has told you to, the question is will we be obedient.

Despite what some have said, the lies, the hate spewed at times towards this ministry, we continue. The rewards from a financial perspective are few, the rewards from a spiritual basis though, they are many, and thankfully daily. To know God chooses to use this ministry, to use me, and yes to use you in regards to the prayers you have offered and for some the financial support is an amazing place to be. I find joy in being in that place, not because I have done anything, but because Christ does it through me. Will you allow yourself to find a place where Christ can do something through you? I pray this is the case, because God is not good some of the time, God is good all of the time!

I have new friends, new family, I pray God doesn’t allow me to forget them. You can meet those people as well. I encourage you, write an inmate today, and become a part of their life. If you can’t do that, I would ask you to consider helping this ministry do that, if you don’t feel comfortable supporting this ministry, find a ministry you can support. I know God will meet our needs, of course that means some have to listen to the call of God.

I have another request outside of the regular requests though. We need ongoing support for our ministry, both in finance and prayer. I am asking for something special today, can you help make it possible to have a personal, face to face visit with Gary in Texas? It will require lodging in Beaumont Texas, (I am not opposed to staying at someone’s house) and I am not opposed to speaking while there to help with funds. But gas, would be needed, possibly some lodging down and back for the trip. I would also ask that help be provided to help pay someone to speak at Mosaic in my absence, I like to see to it that if possible, we can bless the speakers who fill in. This trip would take 2 days there, I could speak along the way, and 2 days back. It is close enough to my uncles’ house in Florida I could hop over and spend some time in the Panhandle of Florida or other locations near that Western Panhandle and speak in that area. I could make a week long trip or more out of it to speak in various places and share about this ministry. The intent though, is to spend face to face time with Gary. I told him this morning I would make the request. Maybe, just maybe, some will see the importance in a single, solitary soul seeking to see God.

Now I am asking something else, can you write to Gary, let him know you are different than other Christians who have ignored his pleas. He doesn’t need someone to preach to him, put him down; he needs someone to share the love of Christ. I will share the addresses and names of other inmates as I get permission, but a good place to find inmates to correspond with to write to can be found by clicking here.

I ask you to do more, do more than most Christians who sit on their duffs and make excuses, do more to share the love of Christ with the very people he has called us to love. Do more to be the church, to be the bride that Christ is proud of cherishes. If you are already doing these things, great, remind others to do their part.

If willing to write Gary, his address is as follows:

Gary Raleigh #1268593
Stiles Unit
3060 FM 3514
Beaumont TX 77705-7635 USA

Thanks and God Bless all,

Mike

The Virtual Pew News 20, Like A Good Watch We Keep Ticking

It is time again for that thereabouts monthly newsletter. I know it is a time you can expect to hear about our needs, but more importantly, I hope I can convey to you the reason the support is needed and the ministry that has taken place.

I have to admit, I continue to be blessed with how God has used this ministry. Since the last publication of the newsletter, between the reviews and all there have been a number of interesting things that have happened, including interviews with such people as Christian Music Pioneer, Pat Terry, movie and television icon, Michael Landon Jr. and much more. My most recent article, one the phenomena of Britain’s Got Talent contestant, Susan Boyle has received over 250,000 reads in two days. This is quite amazing actually, especially if you see and understand the spiritual truths I am trying to share in that article.

While I take some joy in knowing that people are reading the articles, I take even more joy in the one on one interactions, both in person and over the net. Take for example the communication I had with an individual in Florida on Easter Sunday. He asked a simple question, yet one that caused me to grieve over his loneliness. He asked actually two or three questions started with the premise, of: “Mike what would God want me for? Why would he even bother to forgive me?” This and other questions are often the root of the issues brought up by those seeking relationship and understanding about God. I am blessed to communicate with people who are hurting, people who are seeking, and people who are loved by the creator of the universe.

Some time ago I stated to a newspaper reporter that my main goal was to see this ministry touch one person a day. He was surprised as I think he expected me to have much loftier goals. I think what people forget though, is that each specific soul matters to God and so many times, ministries take the position that they are in it to reach all of these people. In the process, along the way, people forget about how important each specific, individual soul is to God. We use clichĂ©’s all of the time, like; “Jesus would have died for you if you had been the only person on the planet.” Yet our actions show so often that we say these things but don’t really believe it. I know how much my own soul and life has experienced struggle and conflict, I know how many times I needed a savior who would save me from that conflict. I know how hard it is to trust individuals, including often times myself. In all of this though, I have also learned that God, through the person of Jesus Christ has never let me down. I have let myself down, I have been let down by others, but my God is constant. To be a part of a ministry that is taking this hope to people in a new and exciting way excites me. It is what drives me, it is my passion, to share the Good News of Love offered by Jesus Christ.

All of this takes time, it takes money. People ask; “How do I do it?” To be honest, it is hard, and it comes with great sacrifice. I realize I will never have much in a material way, but I also know that God has used me, my family, this ministry to touch others. I can honestly say, I think we have touched at least one person a day since the ministry of The Virtual Pew started some years ago. Many of you have contributed to that cause, and many of you are among the links in the chain that has been used to pull people out of the depths of despair, rejection, hurt and so much more.

The other truth is that we need money to survive. My salary between Mosaic and The Virtual Pew is approximately $1,300 a month, which comes out to, $15,600 per year. Out of that come all of my expenses, including taxes, retirement and then some. I have been dependent on the monthly contributions to help with this. The truth is, some contribute and follow through, thank you, and others have promised support and don’t follow through. Since January for example, we have had a promise of $1,600 which would take care of the needed $300 per month of need for salary and additional money for direct ministry. However of that $1,600 that was promised to The Virtual Pew, $800 is what has been received. Of this amount, I don’t keep it for salary, especially when needs arise. Of course it is difficult when needs arise and we don’t have the money to distribute as we desire.

Let me give two examples, this month there were four individuals asking for assistance from The Virtual Pew. I was able to help out 2 of those, but the other two, we simply didn’t have the money to assist. I will state, if making a pledge to The Virtual Pew, please do your best to honor it, it really makes a difference. As a result of some of those pledges not being honored and as a result of not taking my salary from The Virtual Pew this month other things have been affected such as my return trip to Tennessee to visit with my mother who is dying. I had originally intended to visit during March, and simply put, that visit has not been possible, and with each passing day, my mother continues to worsen. At this point, I don’t know if or when I will get to visit with my mother again.

I know that some get tired of hearing about the need, but the need continues to exist. I’ll be honest, it hurts when others ask for help, deserve it and we are unable to help them. We have stretched our dollars as far as we can, and have done what we can to assist others either via net or via in person. I am grateful for those opportunities, and I will continue at all costs to continue ministering to real people with real needs, one at a time doing what we can, for each soul really does matter to God, to me and the others who have supported The Virtual Pew, those aren’t just words, and they are truths.

Well that explains most of the ways we get in the support we need. Of course there is the store on the main Virtual Pew website where you can order things and we get a small percentage of those gifts. Also when you click on the banner adds at The Virtual Pew blog site we get a little, last year that came to a little over $100 so you can see it isn't much. Of course the more you check those out, the more we could get, but the main method of support is from you. I appreciate it and want you know that your financial and prayer support mean a great deal not only to us, but those we have the honor of ministering to. To that support, I say thank you.

One note here is that we lost one of our large supporters over the last year, Dale Howard of Tulsa to cancer last month. I know how much this ministry meant to Dale, and I know how much Dale meant to this ministry. Pray for his family and we thank God for the gifts and support Dale provided us over the last few years. Dale, you were loved. The following video is in memory of Dale.
