Daily Journal for The Recovery From Religious Abuse Day 49

Today starts a new day; I realize that I have been abused by religion. It took me through Day 8, 9 before I realized this, but I am glad I did. You can go back to see my comments on Day 8 and 9 to see what I am speaking of. I am taking the time to do the exercises as outlined in the book; Recovering From Religious Abuse, 11 Steps to Spiritual Freedom written by: Jack Watts. While I know that hurt and abuse as described and presented in the book are two different things, I have come to the understanding that in regards to taking advantage of me I have in fact been abused. I will admit, one of my greatest concerns is I may have at times abused religion. I don’t think I have but this journey will help me understand where I am at and in the process help others as I journal each day with the steps outlined in the book.

Today I know all too well the concepts in the book regarding trying to do the right thing and follow Christ as much as possible in my ways, and in my actions. I also know that while I know it, I also know it isn’t always easy to do. So many times, I want to validate my perspective, or to stand up for others, but while those things are important, and even sometimes needed, my first commitment should be to seek the Kingdom of God and to behave and respond like Jesus. That isn’t always easy even though I know it.

I can’t be right and insist on being right to the point of arguing like a fool. I have worked at it, but I have realized that arguing with someone I am not going to convince, even when right, makes me look like a fool and is a waste of time. I have too many things going on in life to take the time to waste time on foolish things. I have even worked at not saying I told you so when it proves out I was right about a particular issue. I have learned in these situations, I can express my point of view, let it go, and let the Holy Spirit work. Of course there is an attitude change here, one where I realize there are more important things than being right.

I and others have to be careful about making excuses for not being like Jesus. We have to work, fight, and stand for, the things of Heaven and the things God desires. There are no excuses. I am called to do the things of Heaven, and be like Jesus. No Excuses!

“Seek First His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” ~ Matthew 6:33

Humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. ~ James 4:7-8
