The Virtual Pew News 13, Time To Step On A Few Toes and The Virtual Pew Live Radio Program

As many have noticed I have sent out regular emails regarding The Virtual Pew but it has been a while since I sent out a newsletter, with that said. Welcome to The Virtual Pew News #13.
Let me be clear right off the bat, we need your financial help. A number of individuals have promised to help, we are grateful, but we really need it. We have not received any contributions from anyone in 8 weeks. We are down to the last $125 between my checking and savings account and The Virtual Pew account. It has been tough but we are plugging along.

I am so grateful for the help we have received but some made promises and we need them to come through. Some have promised a great deal in the area of helping with this ministry, such as advocating on our behalf in church and business circles. For some, those promises occurred almost a year and a half a go, and reoccurred several times. There are even churches we have ministered and given services at that cost us a great deal in driving to and from and taking care of ourselves that never gave any reimbursement despite promising to give. I have for years given services away and will continue to do so, but if you make a promise to help, please follow through. I really believe some need to hear that when they refuse to do what they said they were going to do, at that point, you become exactly the type of church and organization that turn people away from the Gospel and message of Jesus. How can you expect others to respect you, when you do not honor your word? I have to admit, the largest contributor to this ministry in the last year is an Athiest, for those who call themselves a Christian, or follower of Christ, that should be embarrassing. This individual has indicated to me though, the only Christian ministry they give to is The Virtual Pew because they know we do what we say we will do.

Now I know that is blunt and straightforward. There are several in the situation mentioned above, some churches where I saw people get saved, and others dedicate their life to Christ. There are organizations I have promoted and been a part of for years, been honest and straightforward with, yet they have turned their back on those they are called to serve. Many of those know who they are. As I spend hours upon hours, visiting with, and ministering to a family who has a dying family member, having to pay for gas, not being able to eat or feed my family who may be with me at the hospital, I am a firm believer that calling it like it is, is important. For those who have made promises, your empty words have an impact. I want to be careful here, I'm not talking about those who we have been honored to serve, I am talking about those within the church, and within church organizations who have promised help, and not followed through. Of course anyone who has been helped that can contribute and support what we do, to those I say, Thank You!

Now on the flip side, God is good, and I still know He is going to meet our needs. I know some will see this, and find it in their heart and spirit to support our ministry. A ministry still growing, and doing the things we said we would do.

God is good, and continues to provide, it is sometimes though for our family who has made sacrifice. I just found out today, we are going to be able to short sell our house in Oklahoma and a closing date has been set. What does this mean? Our house in Oklahoma, our dream house we saved and planned for, has had a cash offer made on it while it was in foreclosure and a couple has been approved for the sale. While the house is in foreclosure, we won’t owe any more money on it. Unfortunately, we lost all of the investment we had in the house, approximately $30,000 in equity. We are not complaining, we knew when we made a commitment to ministry, we gave our word to do the ministry God caled us to. We also know when losing this type of investment, when seeing your kids do without, and when having those who are Christians break their word and not be honest, it isn’t always easy.

Not being easy don’t mean it isn’t worth it, and I guess that is part of what I would like to leave today. I could be more blunt about some things and have heard a lot lately about how people shouldn’t complain. I agree with, but it is tricky ground, one has to be careful that they don't imply they don’t care. I will openly state, if you are hurting, if things aren’t right, complain to me, let me know how you feel. Why do I say this? Because I care enough about the souls we are honored to serve to want to be there to help and benefit as we can. While some may accept the everything is wonderful even though I broke my leg mentality, this is a ministry where I hope people know we are real, we are real enough to share the good times as well as the times that suck. I believe this is one of the reasons so many contact us and value what we provide. I know this ministry reaches out to those who have been hurt by the church. It has an impact and a desire to help bring people back to a right, open, and honest relationship with Christ. May we be more like Jesus, and less like the version of Christianity that drives so many away, even the organizations that pretend to take on this popular concept of being different than the traditional church.

Now as to some of the things going on. For those that don’t know, we have ventured into an internet radio program. We are testing one more time, Tuesday, August 14 at 4:00 PM Central before starting our regular programming on Wednesday August 15 at 4:00 PM Central. We will be on weekly for 1 hour and will eventually move to additional days as well as the regular 4:00 PM CTZ slot. Plans are in place to eventually start a Hollywood Jesus Program (within the month) and a regular Wrestling Talk With Mike program, within the next month and a half. These programs will have a dramatic impact and will allow us to have an even broader and more effective ministry.

We continue to hear from individuals on a daily basis, we have established additional methods of contact to provide assistance with these individuals. We can now Instant Message with MySpace members, Yahoo Instant Messenger and MSN Instant Messanger. On the Yahoo Instant Messenger we can receive phone calls into our computer, and make phone calls for 1 cent a minute. We also have a long distance service via our land line where we can make unlimited long distance calls within the United States for no additional charge.

The Virtual Pew Live is a on line radio program that individuals from around the world can listen and call into. We can have upwards of 5 people on the line at any given time. If using Skype of Yahoo services calls into the program will cost approximately 1 cent per minute. If using the chat room at The Virtual Pew Live or an IM services those contacts are free. Those services have already provided invaluable to many needing assistance from The Virtual Pew.

The Virtual Pew continues to minister to The Lost, The Last, and The Least, we continue to move forward having a dramatic impact on the lives of many often neglected and forgotten about, we continue to do this despite the financial difficulty we face. We are working to improve that situation, including doing things like this particular newsletter, and putting together a promotional packet, which costs us approximately $150, that we will take to local churches and denominational organizations to get speaking opportunities. Hopefully many doors will open and we can share our story, and the hope offered by Christ.

Regarding the talk radio program. This is a ministry which will be different. While we will play music on occasion, we want first and foremost to be a place where we can minister to those needing ministry. I have already heard from dozens of people who are grateful this program is being offered. One recently asked, how do we do more? My response is, it isn’t so much doing more, as it is doing what we do more effectively so we can minister to more who need it.

In closing, regarding the program The Virtual Pew Live, we need guests, and we need music with permission to use for bumper and programming. Copyright issues are important so beware of that. We also need better production material. I am really in need of an additional $150 for the phone which would give us a higher quality. I have downloaded some studio software but need better, we will get by with what we have for now. We need guests, and you don’t have to be famous to be a guest, although that don’t hurt. We just want guests who understand what The Virtual Pew is all about, and can share their stories. We simply want to touch people and help them understand that Christ loves them. If you can help share that in a non threatening and loving way, we would love to have you on our program. Of course being interested in the things we do whether agreeing or not would also make interesting programming. It doesn't end there though, I am going to be discussing with a few atheists friends of mine about being on the program.

Please, as a closing note, don’t take this newsletter wrong. I don’t want it to sound like a complaining, upset newsletter. But truth is, if those saying they were going to help, who are Christian, had done what they said they would do, there wouldn’t be a need for this newsletter. I continue to ask, for those that can, we need your support. For those that can’t I understand, I want people to know, this ministry is available whether you can donate or not. I really want it to be like a Pauline ministry, I am open to speaking, sharing, or whatever to get funds to help this ministry along. I thrive at and enjoy those opportunities, many have come through and it is appreciated. I firmly believe that what we do for the dollar is hardly matched by any ministry around. Then again, maybe I am just passionate about what we do, and know from talking to the people I have that we have had a positive impact on the lives of so many.

The Virtual Pew Live & On The Air

Things are progressing very quickly with The Virtual Pew Live radio program. In fact, the first show, a test show, is less than one week away. The initial test show of The Virtual Pew Live will be Wednesday August 15. The title of the show is Kickin’ the Back of the Pew. We will simply be testing the set up, using some music for bumper as well as inputting music into the show. It will be an abbreviated 30-minute show as opposed to the standard one hour program.

Having quality bumper music and songs will be something we strive for with every program, whether The Virtual Pew Live, Wrestling Talk with Furches, or the yet to be determined Hollywood Jesus program. We need quality music, sound effects, and material from people, complete with permission to use the material with no royalty charges. We will list a link to the artist providing the material, whether music, sound effects or bumper material if used as well as give frequent mention during the live broadcasts. I am calling out individuals, bands, comedians and so forth on this. If you have material you are willing to submit for use, I would ask you to send the files to mike@furches.org or if on MySpace, send a link to me via pm if that music is on MySpace, and has a download option. Again, I will be using music in the program, especially with The Virtual Pew program. If knowing bands or individuals that may be interested in having their music played on air, and promoted in this way, send this information their way. Please don’t send me links to their material, to be honest, I just have so much time. I presently have material from my wife, Benny Logos, I will eventually have material from Rob Cassels Band (AKA) Rob Castles and another band I was with, Route 66. The more I have the better though. Please understand, submitting your material does not guarantee being played on the air. I reserve the right to determine all bumper music and material to be broadcast on The Virtual Pew Live.

I am also looking for advertisers and sponsors. Presently all adds and sponsorships will be voiced, with eventual plans for quality produced pieces. I can presently run quality produced pieces if the sponsor or advertiser provides the audio file. Please contact me for sponsorship or advertising rates for the program. There will be 3 spots available for the 30 minute program, and 5 spots for the 1 hour programs, this is in addition to the Program Sponsorships. Program Sponsors will be mentioned throughout the program plus given the option to call in for the first 5-minutes of the program. All sponsorship and advertising rates that come in goes into the general fund for The Virtual Pew, from which I draw a salary when money is available. The remaining funds are used for ministry purposes, including benevolence assistance to individuals and missions as determined by myself and those associated with The Virtual Pew.

Would you like to be a guest on The Virtual Pew Live? I’m serious, would you? Do you have accomplishments you would like to talk about? Is there something unique about you that would be appropriate for The Virtual Pew Live? Realize you don’t have to be a Christian, but I ask that individuals familiarize themselves with whom and what The Virtual Pew is and does. In other words, we won’t be talking much about things like computer programming unless there is a relevant tie in with The Virtual Pew. I will eventually be contacting individuals to be a guest on the program, but am always open to individuals contacting me. I would especially be interested in even interviewing or having as guests, individuals who have gotten something out of The Virtual Pew, whether through Hollywood Jesus, our own The Virtual Pew website, or MySpace. You don’t have to be a celebrity (but that don’t hurt), you just have to be someone who knows what we are doing, and is willing to be heard.

Would you be willing to co-host The Virtual Pew Live radio program on any given program? Presently, I am not looking for a permanent co-host, but would love to have guest co-host on a regular basis. This is different than a guest, but a co-host who would be there, and be willing to carry on in discussion with me, and/or any guest we may have on a particular program.

Lastly, we need listeners and callers. I have looked at, and evaluated the times and days I think best, let me explain. For The Virtual Pew Live we will be hosting the show on Wednesdays at 5:00 PM Eastern, 4:00 Central, 3:00 Mountain, and 2:00 PM Pacific. There are a number of reasons for these time slots. I realize this radio program actually airs over the internet. The most likely time people will listen is while they are at work or if off during the day and make time. Many listen to the radio while at work, even talk radio. We looked at other days and times but with what is currently available on blogtalkradio we didn’t want to compete against some programs. We felt that initially, to have the best impact this would be a great time. I can never find a perfect time for everyone that said, anyone can still listen because every show is archived. The number to call the program is a toll-free number. I can take up to 5 callers at a time and a great problem would be getting a busy signal because of so many callers.

I can also provide links and buttons to place on your web site, your myspace page, and through your emails to promote the show. We want this to have as much of an impact as possible and the only way to do that is to have as many listeners as possible. You will soon be seeing buttons and players on my various web sites, blogs, and at MySpace. You can help by doing the same.

I am going to list below the call in number for the program and the schedule. I am open to other ideas regarding programming and scheduling but wanted to get the first months schedule out as soon as possible. I am also open to putting more days on the schedule, but that will all depend on listeners, advertising and so forth.

We are starting a new era with The Virtual Pew, there is more to come with the Wrestling Talk with Furches, and the Hollywood Jesus program. It is exciting and we hope we can not only provide the same services, teaching, and personal involvement with individuals, we hope we can do more, and we can do better.

Serving On The Radio, Well Sort Of!

Matthew 20: (25) Jesus called them together and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. (26) Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, (27) and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— (28) just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

Mark 10: (44) and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. (45) For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

Luke 22: (25) Jesus said to them, "The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors. (26) But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves. (27) For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.

I start the day with these verses for a specific reason; does anyone catch the theme of these verses so often lost on many, including the religious in our society? The theme is the theme of serving others as was promoted by Jesus himself. A theme I want to make clear from the outset of this article which will talk about some new and upcoming areas of ministry for The Virtual Pew and me.

I bring this up because there are a couple of things I want to illustrate briefly before getting to my request for your help. One, Jesus had a clear mission and a clear purpose, he didn’t compromise that, yet, he still found ways within that calling and purpose to serve others. In the willingness to serve others, as is exemplified when he washed the feet of Peter, individuals have to be willing to receive it with a grateful heart. Peter was like, “No way, you aren’t going to wash my feet.” Then Jesus responded along the lines, “If you don’t let me wash your feet you won’t be able to go to Heaven.” Peter then has one of the great responses in the entire Bible, he says, “Well don’t just wash my feet, wash my entire body.” I can imagine Jesus laughing at that, even though he knew what awaited him just a few short hours away.

The last thing I would want to do is compare what we do at The Virtual Pew with the person of Jesus, but I have to look at this in some regard. The Virtual Pew has a specific ministry to those who have been hurt by the church, are largely unchurched, and even those who need to see Christ in a different, more loving light. A part of that is me also doing some of the things I love because so many pastors do all of the teaching but never live the message they are teaching. I love for example wrestling; my son is involved in it. I also love telling others about the Jesus I know, and the love and grace he has for them. Before I can share what I know with the conviction that I know it works, I have to also live what I preach. Kind of like my good friend Glen Kaiser told me once, I have to walk the talk. Therefore I have friends in the world who aren’t followers of Jesus. I love them care for them, and enjoy their company. But I have to be willing to serve and care for them; I have to also be willing to make sure we don’t compromise our or my purpose, but in that process, find ways to serve others.

Now to the jest of today’s post, announcement of sorts, and a great plea for help to help me better understand how I, and this ministry can better serve you and others like you, or in need of a ministry like The Virtual Pew.

As many of you know, and I have known for some time, this ministry is ministering to people who just don’t have the money to give. The church as a whole is an organization we want to build, teach and support, but we also need that from the church. Unfortunately the church has seldom, and will likely as a large part, will have issue in supporting a ministry they feel threatened by. That is sad, but an unfortunate truth. The true church often understands and goes out of its way to support what we do one way or another. On the other hand The Virtual Pew could do a better job at educating the church as to what we do and raising additional funds. The issue becomes how do we do that without taking away from the ministry we provide others?

There is another unfortunate but realistic truth. The Virtual Pew ministers to thousands on a weekly basis in one way or another. I am convinced of that and you can’t change my mind. On the other hand it is largely me. There are others like Pastor Dave, Mary, Curt, Marcus and others who have gone out of their way to help, but we need help in ways that makes it difficult for individuals to volunteer. That said, I have to be innovative, and think out of the box as to possible ways to insure that this ministry, which is needed, survives. Not only are there the financial needs we have in order to survive, but we have to find a way to serve others, to the point where they get excited to serve, and in the same process contribute to this ministry. I have been talking of recent to Curt in Iraq about this, and know that he is one of several that are on board. But there has to be more, because there is such a need.

Recently, as some of you know I was a guest on a Radio Blog Talk program with Reverend Kerene and 3StarJimmy. After exploring that I begin to see some of the dreams I have for this ministry come together with a reality of possibility for what I want to see happen with The Virtual Pew. Please understand on this point, person to person, face to face, and soul to soul interaction is, and always will be the goal. There will come a point though, and we are not far from it, that it will be virtually impossible for me to give every single person the time they need. It therefore becomes important that others are on board, thankfully Pastor Dave for example is one of those, then there will need to be others though, but in the process I want to, need to, and I believe by God am required to make sure that those individuals or organizations fall within the concepts of what this ministry is supposed to be about.

Now for some ground breaking news regarding Mike Furches and The Virtual Pew; for the last several weeks I have been praying about ministry with Blogtalkradio.com. Here is where I am currently at. Presently I am exploring, and have begin the process to have The Virtual Pew and myself look at the development of 2 radio programs at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/ Those programs will be The Virtual Pew, and another that looks at the arts, specifically, and likely associated with Hollywood Jesus. In keeping with the need for me to also be involved in personal ministry among the things I love I will also eventually look at hosting a wrestling program. There is a lot of details to go and I value the input from each of you and others you may know on the material that follows.

First, the Wrestling Group; I am trying to decide several things with this program, should it be local with some national input or national from the get go. My thoughts here are to start off with a local focus, even a statewide focus looking at the sport on all levels, from kids to High School, and then some focus eventually on a national level. There is even some thought about following a High School around, doing matches, reports, and weekly updates and so forth. For those in the wrestling community I would appreciate your thoughts? There will be some concepts appropriate for input from all 3 programs, but more on that later. The High School one kind of depends on the form we take as to when the program will air. For example, if we broadcast a local program tournament, then we will need to broadcast on days of their duals and matches, not a big deal there.

Here are my thoughts, and requests for the other two groups:

The Virtual Pew:

I am looking for ideas as to what type of program you would like here. Remember, this is a radio program but has the potential to have callers and all, one of the features I like. So the questions:

What kind of program?
Length of time for the program? 15 minutes? 30 minutes? 1 hour? 1 ½ hours?
What day(s) for the program?
Once a day? Once a week? Other options?
What time for the program? What time of day would be best for most of you?
Also production thoughts would be appreciated, do you like the idea of a single host, myself, or having a co host?
What type of outline would you like to see? More of a talk show format, or kind of like an on air church concept, with prayer, worship, teaching, discussion and so forth? Using current events as a method of discussion? Or just various topics and thoughts that are on my mind and going from there? Other?

The Hollywood Jesus Group or something similar:

Am also looking at a group similar to what Hollywood Jesus does, the same questions above apply with some exceptions, obviously the intent would be different with a totally different focus.

Now something to consider regarding both groups; I have been speaking some, emailing a lot with Marcus Pittman regarding co hosting a program together. Two people are kind of an easier way to do it, but we have actually spoken about the Hannity and Combs types of approach. For those familiar with Hollywood Jesus ore participates in some of the groups at MySpace you know Marcus and know how we are different. I think there is a great respect for each other, but certainly a different approach. We are trying to figure out more so of how we can work together and what that would be like. I think there is also an understanding that we may not be able to do this but your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Truth is I want each of these broadcasts to be of service to those who listen. Of course I will maintain my vision and purpose here that I believe God has called me to, but your voice, your opinions, and even your willingness to possibly serve in one way or another is of value. I am looking for information and thoughts in all of that. Individuals can certainly respond here, or they can email me at mike@furches.org or mike@thevirtualpew.com for more private responses. Well that is a start on this long but important notice. The hope is that within the next 3 weeks to month that at least one, if not both shows can be up and on the air. I am still doing a lot of research and checking things out. I really appreciate your response and thoughts. One of the things not mentioned is that advertising is also available and an option for the programs, in other ways, it is one of the ways we can possibly bring in some funds. Love in Life, Love in Death

First of all, Judy, Skip and the rest of the Harrington Family, I love you.

Today is a kind of strange day, with a strange article for you. I contemplated writing this for the last several days but wanted to get things right before doing it. I still don’t know if I have it right, but will give it a shot.

The other day as my wife and I were talking at the dinner table we spoke some about the difficulties we are having financially. We are at the place where we realize the impact the ministry is having but also realizing the “church” in many ways just don’t see or care about the impact of the ministry we do. My wife stated she believes it is because if something isn’t up and in the face of many in the “church” they just don’t see the value in what other ministries are doing. We realized as we carried on this conversation with our son that the truth of it is, our rewards are not on this earth, they are in Heaven.

Over the last few years we have been involved in ministry we sometimes hunger and thirst over the things we gave up prior to going into full-time ministry. We miss things like being able to get your automobile fixed when it needs it, the relaxation that comes from a real vacation, the ability to go to a movie and have a nice dinner at a restaurant, what it feels like to take your kid shopping for school, and on and on with the little things so many people take for granted. Regarding the big things like an investment account or a retirement plan, forget it! We realize, we have taken, wantonly or not, a vow of poverty to be able to serve those the “church” and others don’t have time, energy, or supposedly the financial ability to provide for. Unfortunately, for those often hiding behind a computer screen, with a mental illness, an attitude where there are the unfriendly, and the uncaring out there who don’t care, and others often left out of the equation, many of us realize, there is a world wide ministry for many accessing the net that don’t end at the stroke of a key, but often with a face to face, or ear to ear encounter where real help and real love is shared. Hopefully that love is shared with the reality of the cross behind the various actions that takes place with a ministry like The Virtual Pew.

As my wife, son, and I spoke about this it wasn’t long before we were given a reminder of the value of the work we do. I had recently been asked to appear on an internet radio program, Living Saved with Reverend Kerrene. I had also recently posted the story of Anthony from a presentation I made in Fresno California as well as it had been posted by the church which hosted me. This despite many recent difficulties ranging from financial, to receiving an audit notice from the IRS a lot of things have been there to bring us down. Some of those things caused us to reconsider, rethink, and reevaluate the ministry we are involved in, as well as the difficulties in doing this ministry. It takes literally a minimum of 8-10 hours a day and has me receiving as little as $800 over the last month, from gifts and speaking, with expenditures of ministry of over $1,000. Not all months are like this, but unfortunately, more than not lately. It is one of the reasons we are going to be targeting Kansas, Oklahoma and a 250 mile radius for the next several months. We simply can’t afford to take the trips without the guarantees of income or at least having our basic needs met.

All of this has been going through our minds when something happened that caused me to rededicate myself to the ministry God has called me to. I begin to get more emails and contacts requesting prayer, help and a listening ear from people who are going through problems. This on top of the numerous contacts I already have on a daily basis. I have been reminded that the story of Anthony, the message of hope, and the reassurance that following Jesus is about more than what is presented within the walls of what many call “church” on a week to week basis. Not to say that those places aren’t important, they are, but to realize the “church” is not always the Church that Christ wanted her to be. I could go on regarding reminders of the need for this ministry I have had recently but will only say, that what we see in the “church” likely upsets and hurts Christ more than we realize because she has forgotten about her mission, and more importantly Jesus mission and passion of reaching people who were hurting and lost.

My attitude began to change as the week moved on, but on Friday, God really hit it home as to the importance of this ministry. One thing that many within the “church” had been critical of had once again shown me what God could do through a ministry like this. I was contacted by a dear friend, and dear family we had come to know through wrestling. A member of their family was in the hospital and was dying from cancer. The family requested I do the funeral that would be approaching. It is a sad time for this family, as it is for me and my family, but it is a time where I was touched because I was asked to share in something this important to this family. God continues to amaze me at how I, a kid who grew up in the streets can be asked to share in something this important.

Over the last weekend and for the remainder of this week and beyond I have the honor of spending time with Judy and her family in the hospital. I have had the honor to speak with Judy about her relationship with God and her soon upcoming time where she will be meeting God. It has been amazing to spend time with her, and her family, to be there to give some level of comfort, to pray, to remind them of the temporary nature of separation that comes from death, and of their own need to know and have the right relationship with God in order to spend time with their mother, grandmother, sister, friend and wife in the future. To be placed in a position like this doesn’t come from my own efforts, it don’t come from the efforts of others. These types of blessings come from God and God alone. I don’t know how one places a financial price on something like this. What is more important, the vacation with your family or knowing another family loves you enough to have you be a part of their life in this way? I know we are all made differently, but suddenly last week when asked to do this and then to be told by Judy that she wants me there with her for each of the remaining days of her life on this earth I was reminded, some things in life are worth more than money.

The truth is, life still isn’t easy, I have to find ways to ask God to bless the gas mileage between here and the hospital each day, I have to ask God to provide in other ways, but the sacrifices I make are worth it. Of course there were those who don’t think so, those who encouraged me to spend less time around wrestling, where family exists like in no other sport, but the truth is, those people are gone, not really a part of my life, while those I have the honor to serve, are still there asking me to not only have a part in their lives, but a part in their deaths as they move on to the next stage of life.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, I have been asked to do a funeral twice now in the last month. Once while in Fargo and unable to return home, and now, while I am at home. I think if I had it to do over again, I would have found a way to leave Fargo to come home to spend with another family and friend who passed away that asked me to be a part of their loss. I don’t know, I don’t have all the answers. What I do know is I have been blessed in ways I can’t fully describe. I have the honor of serving those in their darkest hours.

My challenge for the reader today is to reconsider the things that are of value. Are the new car and the hours it takes to pay for it more important than the child at home you need to spend time with? Is the new promotion at work and the time it takes more important than the spouse who starves for your affection and time? Is the new carpet in the sanctuary more important than the souls within the church who struggle and so desperately pleads and begs for love, maybe even in non verbal methods? I could go on here, but it is time we start loving, even those who complain, who don’t understand, and who Christ loves so deeply. I can tell you emphatically, when you do that, you realize there are rewards more valuable than gold and more precious than anything you can imagine. At that point, you know your life has value and purpose, and maybe just maybe, touches someone so much they want to share with you not only in life, but in death.

Born Again? Say What?

I recently heard some discussion over the concept of Nicodemus asking Jesus what it meant to be born again. In that discussion there was some debate as to whether or not Jesus was the only way to Heaven. I did a little research, saved some of the texts and decided to not let it all go to waste. Those questions, thoughts and a little research is the reasoning for the posting here at The Virtual Pew.

Here are some of the passages and the texts that go with them. Now I am doing something a little different, I have removed the verse numbers and all so you can read the text as was written, without the interruption. I am also including a translation that reads like it was heard, The Contemporary English Version. I challenging everyone to also do something a little different; read the verses out loud, it is important to sometimes hear what was said as well as read it. At that point, let the meaning of the words sink in, think about what they are saying, if need be, go back and look at the context of what was said. I don’t think I have pulled any of these out of context and believe it possible to discuss the meanings of these words and texts, many spoken by Jesus. I am open to discussing any of this on line here and am certainly open, and understanding as to why some may want to discuss these privately and off line via pm or email. I am also open to hearing other verses related to other religions as to what people think about how one gets to Heaven. Of course this isn’t just for Christians, but certainly with The Virtual Pew, something for folks to think about. This could be a great exercise for all that have taken part in The Virtual Pew whether a follower of Jesus, Wiccan, Atheist, Hindu, or any other follower of any other religion. It is also a great opportunity to begin an exchange as to what the passages provided here, or provided by others mean, again, whether Christian or not.

1 Timothy 2:5,6 - There is only one God, and Christ Jesus is the only one who can bring us to God. Jesus was truly human, and he gave himself to rescue all of us. God showed us this at the right time.

1 John 2:23 - If we reject the Son, we reject the Father. But if we say that we accept the Son, we have the Father.

1 John 5:10-12 - If we have faith in God's Son, we have believed what God has said. But if we don't believe what God has said about his Son, it is the same as calling God a liar. God has also said that he gave us eternal life and that this life comes to us from his Son. And so, if we have God's Son, we have this life. But if we don't have the Son, we don't have this life.

1 John 5:20 - We know that Jesus Christ the Son of God has come and has shown us the true God. And because of Jesus, we now belong to the true God who gives eternal life.

John 5:23 - The Father wants all people to honor the Son as much as they honor him. When anyone refuses to honor the Son, that is the same as refusing to honor the Father who sent him.

Matthew 11:27 - My Father has given me everything, and he is the only one who knows the Son. The only one who truly knows the Father is the Son. But the Son wants to tell others about the Father, so that they can know him too.

Acts 4:12 - Only Jesus has the power to save! His name is the only one in all the world that can save anyone.

John 14:6 - "I am the way, the truth, and the life!" Jesus answered. "Without me, no one can go to the Father.

Romans 3:24 - But God treats us much better than we deserve, and because of Christ Jesus, he freely accepts us and sets us free from our sins.

1 Thessalonians 4:16, 17 - With a loud command and with the shout of the chief angel and a blast of God's trumpet, the Lord will return from heaven. Then those who had faith in Christ before they died will be raised to life. Next, all of us who are still alive will be taken up into the clouds together with them to meet the Lord in the sky. From that time on we will all be with the Lord forever.

1 Thessalonians 5:9, 10 - God doesn't intend to punish us, but wants us to be saved by our Lord Jesus Christ. Christ died for us, so that we could live with him, whether we are alive or dead when he comes.

Luke 21:36 - Watch out and keep praying that you can escape all that is going to happen and that the Son of Man will be pleased with you.

2 Thessalonians 1:7-10 - but he will give you relief from your troubles. He will do the same for us, when the Lord Jesus comes from heaven with his powerful angels and with a flaming fire.
Our Lord Jesus will punish anyone who doesn't know God and won't obey his message. Their punishment will be eternal destruction, and they will be kept far from the presence of our Lord and his glorious strength. This will happen on that day when the Lord returns to be praised and honored by all who have faith in him and belong to him. This includes you, because you believed what we said.

Deuteronomy 18:15 - Instead, he will choose one of your own people to be a prophet just like me, and you must do what that prophet says.

Deuteronomy 18:18, 19 - So when I want to speak to them, I will choose one of them to be a prophet like you. I will give my message to that prophet, who will tell the people exactly what I have said. Since the message comes from me, anyone who doesn't obey the message will have to answer to me.

John 1:11 -12 - He came into his own world, but his own nation did not welcome him. Yet some people accepted him and put their faith in him. So he gave them the right to be the children of God.

John 3:16-18 - God loved the people of this world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who has faith in him will have eternal life and never really die. God did not send his Son into the world to condemn its people. He sent him to save them! No one who has faith in God's Son will be condemned. But everyone who doesn't have faith in him has already been condemned for not having faith in God's only Son.

John 6:35 - Jesus replied: I am the bread that gives life! No one who comes to me will ever be hungry. No one who has faith in me will ever be thirsty.

John 6:47 – 48 - I tell you for certain that everyone who has faith in me has eternal life. I am the bread that gives life!

John 6:50 – 51 - But the bread from heaven has come down, so that no one who eats it will ever die. I am that bread from heaven! Everyone who eats it will live forever. My flesh is the life-giving bread that I give to the people of this world.

John 6:53-58 - Jesus answered: I tell you for certain that you won't live unless you eat the flesh and drink the blood of the Son of Man. But if you do eat my flesh and drink my blood, you will have eternal life, and I will raise you to life on the last day. My flesh is the true food, and my blood is the true drink. If you eat my flesh and drink my blood, you are one with me, and I am one with you.

The living Father sent me, and I have life because of him. Now everyone who eats my flesh will live because of me. The bread that comes down from heaven isn't like what your ancestors ate. They died, but whoever eats this bread will live forever.

John 8:12 - Once again Jesus spoke to the people. This time he said, "I am the light for the world! Follow me, and you won't be walking in the dark. You will have the light that gives life."

John 10:27 – 28 - My sheep know my voice, and I know them. They follow me, and I give them eternal life, so that they will never be lost. No one can snatch them out of my hand.

John 11:25 – 26 - Jesus then said, "I am the one who raises the dead to life! Everyone who has faith in me will live, even if they die. And everyone who lives because of faith in me will never really die. Do you believe this?"

John 12:48 - But everyone who rejects me and my teachings will be judged on the last day by what I have said.

Acts 2:36 - Everyone in Israel should then know for certain that God has made Jesus both Lord and Christ, even though you put him to death on a cross.

Acts 16:30-33 - After he had led them out of the jail, he asked, "What must I do to be saved?"
They replied, "Have faith in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved! This is also true for everyone who lives in your home."

Then Paul and Silas told him and everyone else in his house about the Lord. While it was still night, the jailer took them to a place where he could wash their cuts and bruises. Then he and everyone in his home were baptized.

Romans 5:21 - Sin ruled by means of death. But God's kindness now rules, and God has accepted us because of Jesus Christ our Lord. This means that we will have eternal life.

Romans 6:23 - Sin pays off with death. But God's gift is eternal life given by Jesus Christ our Lord.

Ephesians 4:4-6 - All of you are part of the same body. There is only one Spirit of God, just as you were given one hope when you were chosen to be God's people. We have only one Lord, one faith, and one baptism. There is one God who is the Father of all people. Not only is God above all others, but he works by using all of us, and he lives in all of us.

Romans 8:2 - The Holy Spirit will give you life that comes from Christ Jesus and will set you free from sin and death.

Romans 8:11 - Yet God raised Jesus to life! God's Spirit now lives in you, and he will raise you to life by his Spirit.

Romans 10:9-11 - So you will be saved, if you honestly say, "Jesus is Lord," and if you believe with all your heart that God raised him from death. God will accept you and save you, if you truly believe this and tell it to others.

The Scriptures say that no one who has faith will be disappointed,

Philippians 2:10 – 11 - So at the name of Jesus everyone will bow down, those in heaven, on earth, and under the earth.

And to the glory of God the Father everyone will openly agree, "Jesus Christ is Lord!"

Revelation 1:18 - and the living one. I died, but now I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys to death and the world of the dead.

Revelation 14:12 - God's people must learn to endure. They must also obey his commands and have faith in Jesus.

Revelation 1:5 – 6 - May kindness and peace be yours from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness. Jesus was the first to conquer death, and he is the ruler of all earthly kings. Christ loves us, and by his blood he set us free from our sins.

He lets us rule as kings and serve God his Father as priests.
To him be glory and power forever and ever! Amen.

2 John 9 - Don't keep changing what you were taught about Christ, or else God will no longer be with you. But if you hold firmly to what you were taught, both the Father and the Son will be with you.

1 John 1:7 - But if we live in the light, as God does, we share in life with each other. And the blood of his Son Jesus washes all our sins away.

Hebrews 7:25 - He is forever able to save the people he leads to God, because he always lives to speak to God for them.

Hebrews 9:11 - 12 - Christ came as the high priest of the good things that are now here. He also went into a much better tent that wasn't made by humans and that doesn't belong to this world. Then Christ went once for all into the most holy place and freed us from sin forever. He did this by offering his own blood instead of the blood of goats and bulls.

Hebrews 9:14 - 15 - But Christ was sinless, and he offered himself as an eternal and spiritual sacrifice to God. That's why his blood is much more powerful and makes our consciences clear. Now we can serve the living God and no longer do things that lead to death. Christ died to rescue those who had sinned and broken the old agreement. Now he brings his chosen ones a new agreement with its guarantee of God's eternal blessings!

Hebrews 9:24-28 - This is why Christ did not go into a tent that had been made by humans and was only a copy of the real one. Instead, he went into heaven and is now there with God to help us.

Christ did not have to offer himself many times. He wasn't like a high priest who goes into the most holy place each year to offer the blood of an animal. If he had offered himself every year, he would have suffered many times since the creation of the world. But instead, near the end of time he offered himself once and for all, so that he could be a sacrifice that does away with sin.
We die only once, and then we are judged. So Christ died only once to take away the sins of many people. But when he comes again, it will not be to take away sin. He will come to save everyone who is waiting for him.

1 John 2:1 – 2 - My children, I am writing this so that you won't sin. But if you do sin, Jesus Christ always does the right thing, and he will speak to the Father for us. Christ is the sacrifice that takes away our sins and the sins of all the world's people.

Mark 12:10 – 11 - You surely know that the Scriptures say, `The stone that the builders tossed aside is now the most important stone of all.

This is something the Lord has done, and it is amazing to us.' "

Now the passage in question with the conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus:

John Chapter 3:

John 3
Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at night and said, "Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him."

In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."

"How can a man be born when he is old?" Nicodemus asked. "Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb to be born!"

Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.' The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."

"How can this be?" Nicodemus asked.

"You are Israel's teacher," said Jesus, "and do you not understand these things? I tell you the truth, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man. Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."

After this, Jesus and his disciples went out into the Judean countryside, where he spent some time with them, and baptized. Now John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because there was plenty of water, and people were constantly coming to be baptized. (This was before John was put in prison.) An argument developed between some of John's disciples and a certain Jew over the matter of ceremonial washing. They came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, that man who was with you on the other side of the Jordan—the one you testified about—well, he is baptizing, and everyone is going to him."

To this John replied, "A man can receive only what is given him from heaven. You yourselves can testify that I said, 'I am not the Christ but am sent ahead of him.' The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom's voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete. He must become greater; I must become less.

"The one who comes from above is above all; the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks as one from the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above all. He testifies to what he has seen and heard, but no one accepts his testimony. The man who has accepted it has certified that God is truthful. For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit. The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands. Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him."

For those that don't know the one known as the 5th Beatle, Billy Preston was a "Born Again" Christian and used a lot analogy in this song. Mike Furches and The Virtual Pew Live On Air This Friday

Here goes, some good news and ambitious goals for The Virtual Pew. First some updates regarding the recent issue with YouTube.

I received another response from YouTube regarding the article I posted on 7/30/07. Long and short is it doesn’t look good at this point regarding reinstatement unless a ton of people complain and voice their opinions. I appreciate the emails to YouTube and encourage folks to keep it up. There were 3 specific videos in question, 2 which I have ownership of and put together. Both are clearly my videos, and one, while using some material from a television program, clearly falls into what is called Fair Use Copyright. The other video given to me by another individual is in question, and possibly a violation of user policy. The sad thing is YouTube stated it had emailed me several times, and in fact did not. The other fact is that they indicated past violations, when there were clearly no violations. I suspect I am interacting with someone other than the person capable to make decisions. All videos were either wrestling or wrestling related. I could say more on that, but will respond privately if need be. There is a lot going on with The Virtual Pew and I want to address those areas today.

This Friday evening, August 3 at 6:00 PM Eastern, 5:00 PM Central, and 3:00 PM Pacific I will be the guest on the Internet Radio Program Living Saved hosted by Reverend Kerrene and 3STAR Jimmy. The program, hosted at www.blogtalkradio.com/livingsavedwithrevkerrene can be accessed by clicking here.

I will be the guest on the program from 1 – 2 hours and they have asked me to share my story, as well as some about The Virtual Pew. The program can receive phone calls and individuals are encouraged to call and participate in the program. The phone number to call into the program is (646) 478-5942. I would love to talk to as many readers, viewers, and listeners as possible during this particular program. Let’s let everyone know about the program, encourage them to listen, and even call in. The number to call in is a toll free number and will be no charge to the individual making the call.

So far I have really enjoyed the preliminary communications with Rev. Kerrene and 3STAR Jimmy the co-hosts of the program. From all indications they have a good understanding of what we are trying to do with The Virtual Pew and a good understanding of the ministry I am involved in. It will be a great chance for folks to hear my Southern Drawl, (with a New York attitude) while at the same time ask questions and share their thoughts about The Virtual Pew and myself. I really look forward to these types of doors being opened and realizing the work God can do. Of course I suspect some discussion related to movies, television, music and the like due to my past musical associations and for the past number of years I have been with Hollywood Jesus.

On a side note, I am also looking at the possibility of The Virtual Pew hosting a weekly radio, blog cast program. Currently I am looking for bumper music so if there are any bands that would be willing to release some music for consideration, to be used let me know. I would also be interested to know what folks would like to hear on a weekly The Virtual Pew radio program including topics of discussion. I have been asked about doing this for some time but have just become aware of blogtalkradio as a starting point for this. With the ability to take live phone calls, having response via the internet, and having as many as 5 people on line at the same time, there is a great deal of potential here. I am currently looking at a weekly program, so I ask which day is best? I am looking at starting with a 1 hour program, what hour of the day (or night) is best? I greatly appreciate any suggestions as listeners and those a part of The Virtual Pew will know these things better than I. I am merely looking at providing an area of ministry that will benefit those we seek to reach. Of course, I don’t suspect all programs to be “religious” in nature. I would suspect a great deal of wrestling related things to happen on occasion, as well as other topical areas that have drawn individuals to The Virtual Pew. There may end up being another program we look at, specifically targeting the sport of wrestling, as well as possibly broadcasting future wrestling events.

Obviously a lot has been going on and I am excited about the potential. I also need additional individuals to come on board to assist with either co-hosting, guest-hosting and those types of things when I am not available. This ministry has made the effort to reach out across religious boundaries to touch people where they are at, whether they be religious or not. God continues to bless and open up doors. Now I don’t know who will remember the Wauhobbs. I was actually presenting at the National Youth Workers Convention in Dallas in the 1980’s when this group was featured in The Wittenberg Door and was scheduled to perform at the convention. I’ll never forget reading how the drummer could drop a stick, and catch up with the beat like no drummer in the world.
